Award Winning Kitchen Remodel

CotY kitchen 60 to 100R15_pms287

Dark, awkward, broken and dated were the words that described the original kitchen.  The newly remodeled hub of this home is now bright, open and airy.  Light bounces around the space and invites guests to linger while enjoying the beautiful views of the pool and of Lake Travis in the distance.  Two nine foot islands grace the preparation and conversation area, while a hard working vertical wall grounds the space and serves as the back drop to the large great room.  A down draft hood was selected to maintain the open feel of the room and to ensure every available sightline to the views were preserved.  A custom cantilevered box design made the pantry feel like a work of art, while also affording flexibility and style when storing items.

Through all of the changes, one goal took center stage and that was to preserve the stunning Turkish travertine with onyx veining that ran throughout the home.  Once the existing flooring was identified, it was discovered that it had been discontinued and that the mine in Turkey had been closed for religious reasons a couple years prior.  Thankfully the team at RRS Design + Build was able to locate a small number of tiles that still remained in Turkey.  The shipment back to the states was caught up in customs for weeks.  Understanding that color variations were likely due to the timing of when the materials were mined, the team went to work surgically removing tiles and placing them like puzzle pieces to create minimal transitions between original tiles and those that had been recently secured.  The final result was practically seamless, saving the client thousands in flooring costs, in addition to salving the tile that she loved so much!
